Young Virtuosi – Stars of the Future
Discover the future stars of classical music in this concert featuring local young talented musicians – violinist EIN NA, clarinettist DYLAN YOU, pianist JEREMY SUN and cellist NICHOLAS SHI.
MacGregor State School’s Camerata and String Quartet will perform in the Skyview Foyer from 5:30pm
Ein Na is 14 years old and attends Somerville House. She is currently studying violin with Spiros Rantos. In 2019, at the age of ten, she toured Europe as a soloist with a chamber orchestra. In 2021, aged 12, she was awarded her LMusA Diploma with Distinction and received first prize in the AUSTAQ Concerto Competition. Further, she was the winner of the 47th John Curro National Youth Concerto Competition at 13 years old and she was the first Queensland winner in 20 years since Ray Chen. Ein competed in the finals of the Kendall National Violin Competition on March this year and won first prize with the Kendall String Academy, receiving a concert violin by Master Luthier Michal Prokop. Moreover, Ein performed with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra at the Brisbane City hall. Last month, she received first prize in the 2023 Young Instrumentalist Prize. Later this year, Ein will attend the 2023 Heifetz International Music Institute in Staunton, Virginia.
Nicholas Shi’s talent and love of the cello became apparent from an early age. Having begun the cello at age five, he won a Platinum award in the 2019 Southside String Festival and more recently various Eisteddfod prizes. In 2022 he was awarded his Associate in Music (AMusA) with Distinction and in 2023 at age 11 has just recently begun playing on a full sized cello.
Clarinettist Dylan You has won numerous prizes for both piano and clarinet including the Queensland Clarinet and Saxophone Society and Eisteddfods in Brisbane, Ipswich, Redlands. In 2022 he completed his AmusA for both piano and clarinet. Now aged 16 he is a finalist in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Young Instrumentalist Prize of 2023.
Jeremy Sun began studying piano at the age of six. He made his concerto debut at age 11 with QYO 2 and completed his Licentiate in Music (LMusA) with Distinction at the age of 12 and. Jeremy won First Prize and the Audience prize in the 2022 Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition and the 2021 Theme and Variations Foundation award. Now aged 17 Jeremy has also won international competitions in Germany, Portugal, Italy, Austria and China and is a Bachelor of Music (Honours) candidate at University of Queensland.
Concertgoers can arrive early to enjoy the complimentary performance by MacGregor State School’s highly-awarded Camerata and String Quartet conducted by Kentaro Koido.
